Despite his busy schedule, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis N. Tolentino personally met the officers of Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) led by its President Dr. Alfonso Siy during its courtesy call to MMDA office on July 15, 2013, (Monday), at 9:30 am. Chairman Tolentino warmly welcomed the FFCCCII officers and hoped that through this meeting, the FFCCCII can give him valuable suggestions and opinions as he introduced the plans and projects of MMDA.
Chairman Tolentino mentioned that he received a letter signed by FFCCCII President Dr. Alfonso Siy regarding the implementation of modified truck ban. He said that he is taking into considerations the opinions and effects of the modified truck ban raised in the said letter. In this connection, the MMDA also approved the extension of the implementation of the modified truck ban to January 5, 2014. The FFCCCII officers also voiced out concerns regarding the proposal to change the existing two-digit number coding scheme to a four-digit system that will bar vehicle owners from using their cars twice a week. Chairman Tolentino said that MMDA will continue consultations with the private sector, government agencies, and other stakeholders to come up with a plan that will decongest traffic.
After Chairman Tolentino presented his other proposals to ease up traffic in a power point presentation, FFCCCII officers raised some suggestions to improve the traffic conditions in Metro Manila, such as adding more coaches in the MRT and LRT trains and enforcing strict traffic rules and regulations. FFCCCII also welcomed MMDA’s proposal to put up the interim bus terminals if not to ban the provincial buses to enter Metro Manila.
Also present during the meeting were: Honorary President Tan Ching, Executive Vice President Angel Ngu, Vice Presidents Domingo Yap, Henry Lim Bon Liong, David Chua, Alex Yap Choty, William Gosiaco and Victor Lim, Auditor William Yap Castro, Secretary General Dr. Fernando Gan, and External Affairs Committee Chairman George Chua Cham.
